Vander walked through the plains near the twilight of sunset . It has been a while He thought to himself.
He walked to a nearby hillock to watch the sunset. Vander grabbed a scroll from his travel pack and began to read.

It had been a long and fruitless day I thought as I circled the outskirts of Blue Ridge Valley. My feet were aching and my senses dulled from countless hours of hunting without much success. And on this far side of the Valley, there were little more than plains that stretched out for miles . . .there was little hope of finding a meal here . . . Though I was yet a man, the wolf in me groweled in frustration. It was growing hungry and inpatient, knowing that it could do a far better job in hunting than I ever could. I sighed . . .he was right. However, the moon had not yet risen and with the sun still above the western horizon, there was little chance of me changing soon . . . Suddenly, a light breeze blew across the plains, and with little to mingle with the scent, I smelt someone . . .a stranger. My golden eyes darted towards the smell and there, atop a not so distant hillock, was a shape . . .a man? My eyes narrowed. Why would someone like that be out here?

Vander felt the presence of many things on this plain, the movement of the insects burrowing through the soil beneath him, the grass devouring the moving air, and the light steps of something, hunting.
Vander entertained the idea of things living and surviving, he was a druid after all, but his survival instincts picked up a desire to be alert.
Vander rolled up his scroll and placed it back into his travel pack and turned to find a werewolf off in the distance. Vander's connection to living thing was limited to only natural living things, but he understood the hunger in this particular being's eyes.
"Hello there," said Vander measuring the steps of what he thought was his predator.
His body, albeit young and small, was well trained. Vander concentrated on his Iron fist technique, but waited for the being to answer.

When the man spoke my muscles tightened a little. The wolf could sence something in this one, something . . .rare. It was that feeling that caused the animal in me to hesitate, to sniff the air, and even to wag its tail once. I paused for a moment or two but then, detecting no hostility, stepped forward and answered. "Hello . . .it's rare that I see many others out here. My name is Morgan, Morgan Elsted . . .and what can I call you, friend?" I was taking careful steps toward this strange traveler, not entirely sure what to expect.

Vander noticed the movement of the creature's tail and heard his words.
"My name is Vander Arcite." Vander kept his mind focused on the technique but lowered his hands "It has been a while since I have been in the valley. I feel as though I missed so many things, but that is all in the past. "
Vander looked the werewolf in the eyes and said, "So, Mr. Morgan, what brings you to the valley?"

I breathed a sigh of reliefe when the man lowered his hands. Stopping not far from him when he asked what my own business was here, I could have laughed. "Well," I started, somewhat amused "At the moment Vander Arcite, I've been trying to find dinner." I looked around the grassy outreaches that surrounded this valley. "Though I have to say, I haven't been dealt the best of luck . . ." I turned my eyes back towards the young man, my curiosity getting the better of me. "And what has brought you back here? Seems as if you've been gone from this place . . .why return?"

"I am trying to make this place my home," Vander replied, "and with regards to your desire for food, "Nocturnal animals in this area are bigger than the ones you see in daytime."
"There is one thing about this place that kind of urked me. Here there are so many unnatural living things my druid senses are starting to get agitated." Vander's eyes flashed a dull green and the grass beneath his feet grew a few inches.
"Sorry, even the presence of a werewolf, a living hunter, causes my calling to activate, and in harsh cases, eradicate." Vander shook off the wave of power. "Perhaps it makes me stronger."

I hesitated when I sensed his power. That is what I had felt in him upon first seeing the young man . . .a natural power that I had never before sensed in anyone before. "I'm sorry if I seem threatening . . .it's just that it's been a while since my last meal and my . . .other half gets a bit wrestless in such cases." I crouched down, cocking my head slightly to one side. "You are right on one thing though, this place is alive with creatures of the unatural . . .in fact, you are one of the few humans I have seen here since arriving"

Vander heard Morgan's words and was shocked. "What do you mean, I am the first human you've seen?" Vander tried to hold back the venom on his tongue.
Vander tolerated the presence of unnatural living things including the druidic banes, vampires and demons. He hated them at his core for they rejected the natural balance of things living, but for the valley to not have as many humans as before forced Vander to think of one thing, extermination.
Vander remembered the old valley, he remembered a balance.
"I do believe I might have some work to do," whispered Vander.

My brow furrowed. It was hard to believe that Vander could be so surprised at what I had told him. But, then again, if one really thought about it, Blue Ridge Valley was truely an oddity . . .a place where the natural order of things did not apply. Still, the feeling that I got from him was something that caused the wold in me to raise it's hackles in warning. With a little effort, I pushed the animal aside. "It's true that there are many creatures here that seem . . .strange and unusual but, many in this valley hardly chose that path." I scratched my head and thought for a moment. "You said you were here once before . . .and yet you seemed surprised at all this . . .dare I say, angry. Has the valley really changed so much?"
