As the wolf and I ran and played together . . .flashes of an all too familiar face ran through our minds . . . *Rain . . .* I whispered as I watched Ed run. As I thought about it more and more, Rain, my mate and lover, looked so much like Ed . . . Her white coat and blue eyes gave way to memories that I hoped I would forget . . .now all I could see was her . . .Rain. She was standing there at the edge of the mountain pass, watching as the others drove me from her, from them. There was no pain in her eyes, for wolves, never cried, could never show emotion as humans do . . .however, I knew that she felt sadness because, like me, a part of her somewhere beneath her wolfen half was human . . . I slowed in the chase after Ed. And now followed at more of a trot. Let her go, is what I thought as I saw her dance away. Let her go, and let Rain go. There is no place for you here . . .

The river.. i had crossed it coming to Blue Ridge, you can usualy find game near water. I ran on.. but noticed the slower pace of footfalls behind me. I slowed to a stop and looked back. I tipped my head to the side as if to ask, "you alright?" i wined, questioningly. I reached out with my senses.. he was troubled.. and sad.

I saw Ed slow and turn to me. She could tell something was wrong . . . I shook my head, wagged my tail once, and ran up to meet her. *Sorry, my thoughts tend to wonder sometimes. So,* I added a bit too quickly *it seems you have somewhere in mind . . .*

I wagged my tail, glad to see him *it's alright, thoughts tend to do that* i glanced at him again before i started moving again.. something was definately on his mind.. i hope he is alright.
*Yeah, i thought of a place.. i crossed a river a little ways from here that should have some good hunting near it.*.. a quiet place.. whith woods near the water, plenty of deer tracks were there the last time i ventured forth to that place.

I wagged my tail and nodded to her, in the way that any wolf might nod . . .dipping my head up and down once while still looking at Ed. *I will follow then, deer are one thing that are more scarce in the mountains . . .it would be excellent if we could catch one.*
She knew I was hiding something, it didn't take much to realize that . . .perhaps I would tell her about it sometime, but . . .not now. Right now I just wanted to hunt, to get my mind off everything that had followed me here.

I nodded back and smiled worredly as best i could for a wolf. *Indeed it would be, they are good eating* i looked at him for a long moment, then turned and went onward tward the river.
I ran all out, glad for the wind on my face. I slowed down to a trot when i caught the smell of water. I slowed further and peered through the trees, scanning the shore for prey with my ears perked up and eyes alert for motion.
