I tensed when Tethys called forth her strange magic. Closing my eyes I unconsiously clung to her, for fear that I would be swallowed up by the shadows that suddenly came around us. However, it wasn't long before the shadows were gone and I found myself in a house . . . I blinked a few times. "faer . ." (magic) Then, realizing that I was still holding tightly to Tethys' waist, I let go and looked at her. I puffed out my chest slightly and tried my best to look like I had not been scared at all. "Usstan zhahus naut tahta, naut a jal" (I wasn't scared, not at all.)

As I looked down I saw that Verin was still cleaning to me and then let go of me and puffed out her chest slightly trying to act like she was not scared. I then heard her speak and new she was saying that she was not scared because of how she was acting and I smiled at her and said “You are a brave girl Verin….now let me go fix you something to eat…please take a set.” I then pointed to a comfortable looking couch and then went into the kitchen and started to make her something to eat.

When Tethys pointed to the couch I walked over to it and sat down. I was surprised at how comfortable it was . . .soft . . . I leaned back and patted the cushions with my hand and then looked about the room. I felt a little out of sorts in this place, though it was nice enough and certainly comfortable enough . . .I still felt, like a stranger here . . . I closed my eyes for a moment, just a moment, thinking that I could just rest them a bit, after all, I wasn't tired . . . I dozed there on Tethys' couch, waiting for her to come back.

As I made something to eat for Verin, I was thinking how glade I was that I bought food just in case I had company like I did now. Then went and checked on Verin to see that she fell asleep. I smiled and went back in the kitchen and finished making her food and then brought it out and laid it on the table in front of the couch. I hade made her some beef stew and a sandwich with a glass of milk and sat down on the chair and waited for her to wake to the smell of the food. As I watched her sleep I smiled for she looked adorable when she was sleeping and she seemed more relaxed.

I wasn't sure how long I had been sleeping but, it seemed like only moments before the smell of hot stew woke me . . . I opened my eyes and looked at the table in front of me and saw that there was a bowl there and a glass of milk as well . . . Without hesitating, I went for the bowl, hardly bothering to use the spoon that had been placed with it. I burned my mouth a time or two before I finally slowed down enough to taste what I was eating. When the stew was gone, I took the glass and drank it greedily. Finally, I sat back . . .only then noticing that Tethys was there, watching.

"You must have been hungry Verin, well if you are still hungry there is a sandwich too" I said with a smile and pointed to it and then added "but this time eat slowly or you might chock, anyway...would you like another drink of milk?."

I followed Tethys' finger to where it pointed and saw that she meant I could have the sandwitch too. . .I grabbed it, almost fearful that she would take it back if I did not eat it . . .however, I shook my head no when she asked if I would like anouther glass of milk. "Th-thank . . .you." I said between bites of sandwitch, eating it a little slower but not much. When I had finished, I sat savoring the flavor a little, it had been very good but . . .I yawned and rubbed my eyes. Then I looked at Tethys and suddenly straightened up. I wasn't tired . . .

I smiled when I saw her yawned and rubbed my eyes and then I got up and said "Come with me" and went into the bedroom and pointed to a very comfortable looking bed. "You may go to sleep here tonight" I said and then went to the book shelf and took a book off and blew the dust off and said quietly to myself "Never thought I would have to read this." Then I looked at Verin and said "You should get some sleep now...and don't worry, I will stay up all night and make sure you are safe here ok."

I looked at the bed but scratched my head when she started to speak. "Ji mzil wiles . . .olt dubo ulu kampi'un." (So many words, its hard to understand) but, I got the general idea of what she had said. Tethys had motioned to the bed that meant that I was to sleep here . . .which was pointless because I was not *yawn* tired . . . I looked around the room, taking in my surroundings. I touched my daggers that hung at my sides. I still felt a little strange. Why was she showing me kindness? No one else had, not since . . .well . . . I finally turned to Tethys again, asking . . . "Usstan tlun sreen'aur ghil? Nau uss orn doer whol uns'aa ghil?" I heaved a sigh and concentrated. "I am s-safe . . .h-here? Nothing . . ." I struggled for the last word ". . .bad?"

“You are safe here, there is nothing bad in this house” I said and added “I will let you sleep now and if you need me…I will be on the couch you were just on. Now get some sleep and I will see you tomorrow.” I then gave her a smile and left the room but kept the door opened in case she needed something and then I sat down on the chair and started to read the book I got.
