I watched Tethys go . . . She had said that I would be safe, that there was nothing bad in the house. However, it wasn't inside the house that worried me, it was whatever might be outside . . . Never-the-less, I turned and loosed my daggers from their sheathes and laid them carefully on the table beside the bed. As this was not my house, I took proper care to remove my boots, set them carefully under the bed, remove my gloves and fold them over my daggers, and then, at last, I crawled into the bed. I was asleep before me head hit the pillow.

I read some pages of the book and went wide eyed and said to myself quietly "Wow Drow is really heard to learn." I was reading a book called "The Language of Drow" and could not believe how hard it was, I then put the book down after and hour and got up and checked on Verin and smiled when I saw her sleeping soundly and then I went back and sat down and read the book all night long.

When I woke the next mourning, I discovered that I had slept all night long . . .without even a single nightmare . . . Slowly, I sat up and rubbed the sleep from my eyes. I yawned and stretched. I sat there in that bed that Tethys had let me sleep in . . . Then, I climbed out of bed and donned my boots, gloves and daggers once again, and headed out of the room in search of Tethys.

I was in the kitchen making breakfast for Verin and heard foot steps just outside and I smiled and said "Bwael kre'tan"(Good morning) I then put her breakfast on the kitchen table. I had made her eggs, toast and beckon with a glass of milk. I then sat down at the table with the book in my hand and waited for Verin to come in and take a seat.

I found my way to the kitchen and was surprised to find Tethys already there . . .and even more surprised when she bid me good mourning, in my own language . . . I blinked and stood in the doorway for a moment or two. "Dos ph' Ilythiiri?" (you are drow?) Strange. she didn't look like she was of Drowen blood . . .but . . .why then could she speak?

I smiled at her and said "Nau, Usstan tlun naut natha….Ilythiiri...Usstan screus fol d' dos xanalress…dal…nindol…voiry."( No, I am not a Drow...I learned some of you language from this book.) I then held it up and said “Usstan er'griff zhaun natha leza d' Ilythiiri, ji Usstan…orn tlu…telanthaad rivvil….xanalress..ul… dos nin lu' t'yin” (I only know a bit of Drow, so I will be speaking human language to you now and then) I then pointed to the chair and said “Cal”(Eat) and then checked the book and smiled because I said everything right....well at least I think I did.

I smiled at her as she spoke to me."Siyo, siyo, dos said rilbol ditronw." (yes, yes, you said everything right.) Then I walked to the table and sat down. I began eating, this time, I was not so hungry that I could have eaten the plate with everything else, I could taste the meal and it was good. After I had eaten most of it and was toying with the rest on my plate, I turned my eyes to Tethys. "You . . .tea-ch me . . .your t-tongue then?"

I watched her eat and saw that she was not wolfing it down like she did the other night. I smiled when she asked if I would teach her English and I said “Of course I will” and then realized I said it in English and I tried it in Drow “D' heen Usstan orn.” Then I got up and smiled at her and said “Are you done with your meal” and pointed to her plate.

I grinned and nodded when Tethys pointed to my plate, showing her that I was finished. She would teach me how to speak her language, or at least how to speak it better then I could now. But, when she turned away with the plate, my smile faded a little. But . . .what if, during my learnings, I were to say something of who I was, what I was . . .what I had done . . .? I might loose the only person that had been kind to me in a long long time . . .

I took her plate and put it in the sink and washed them and put them away and turned around and saw that the smile upon Verin face had faded a little. I then walked up to her and pulled a chair up beside her and said with hand jesters and pointing to her faded smile and said "What is wrong Verin?"
